Moving From Toronto to Durham Region: What to Expect

What city buyers gain — and lose — when they move east. Honest notes on commute, lifestyle, and the price-per-square-foot reality check.

The Toronto-to-Durham move has been the dominant story in our market for five straight years. Here's what it really looks like.

What you gain

Roughly 2x the square footage, a yard, a driveway, and a 30–40% reduction in monthly carrying costs.

What you trade

Walkability, restaurant density, and 15-minute everything. Durham's downtowns are improving fast but they're not Queen West yet.

The commute reality

GO from Whitby or Pickering to Union is 45–55 minutes, reliably. Driving the 401 daily is not a viable long-term plan for most people.

The right move

Spend a Saturday in your top two neighbourhoods. Walk to a coffee, drive to the GO, eat dinner there. The right town reveals itself in three hours.

Plan a tour day — we do this for relocating Toronto buyers every week.
